In a comprehensive scientometric study on geothermal heat pumps from 1980 to 2023, significant research trends, diverse geographic contributions, dynamic collaborations, and key terms were identified. This study, which utilized the Web of Science databases, identified 502 records, with 90% being original articles. Geothermal heat pumps have seen steady growth since their inception in 1993, starting with just one article and peaking in 2023 with contributions from 60 institutions across 26 countries, indicating their increasing global appeal. Geographically, the United States leads with 81 publications, followed by China with a significant 61 articles. Despite Turkey producing only 21 records, its citation rate is remarkably high. Among collaborative research, Saudi Arabia’s co-authorship contrasts sharply with Russia’s solitary approach. China, the United States, and South Korea lead with 71, 70, and 68 research supports respectively. Key institutes like the National Science Foundation of China, supporting 15 articles, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, funding 14 articles, and the European Union, supporting 8 articles, play crucial roles in advancing research in this field.
