This study is an optimization problem to find the optimal storage volumes of natural gas in Iran for the years 2013- 2031 using linear programming solved with Lingo software. The required data comes from the Energy Balance Sheet, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Storage Company. Natural Gas is allocated to domestic consumption, injection into oil reservoirs, export and storage based on the priorities identified by Ministry of Oil. Volume of optimum natural gas storage has been evaluated under three scenarios. In the base case scenario, optimum storage was identified as 8 percent of domestic consumption. This study indicates the importance of gas storage in the country and the necessity of higher investment and technical capacity building for it.
