Integration of PWR Nuclear Power Plant and MED Desalination: Tecno-Economic Analysis
Abstract:   (3896 Views)
This research is a tecno-economic analyses of heat recovery PWR nuclear power plant used for MED desalination plant. Using DE-TOP software simulation model, we conclude that inlet live steam of heater should be fed into MED plant and then the dead steam of desalination plant should be reinjected into 2nd heater of the power plant heat exchangers networks. This integration of a 1,007MWe nuclear power plant with a 70,000 m3/day MED plant increases the overall thermal efficiency by 3% and decreases net power production by 16 MWe . With a total investment cost of $165 million in desalination plant, 15 years life cycle IRR of 30%, the levelized cost of fresh water is estimated to be 30,375 Rials/m3.
Keywords: PWR Nucluar power plant, MED desalination plant, PWR & MED integration.
