With the increasing penetration of renewable energies in microgrids, the need to use energy storage systems in order to improve the reliability of microgrids has received more attention than in the past. Energy management of micro-grids is not possible without considering the correct and fundamental planning of these systems. Therefore, in this paper, a new algorithm is proposed for ESS planning in order to manage the microgrid in a reliable way. Considering the impact of different microgrid operation strategies on the planning of energy storage systems, microgrid performance has been investigated in reliability-oriented and cost-oriented strategies. Also, ESS planning is done in both weekly and daily planning horizons. In order to correctly consider the uncertainties related to the multi-objective programming problem, various probabilistic models for the parameters in the network have been presented and they have been expressed as mixed integer linear programming (MILP). problems by implementing the proposed method on a modified IEEE 33-bus test system, the effectiveness of the proposed method for evaluating the reliability of microgrids is tested and the obtained results confirm its efficiency.
